Reviews
I'm not sure why, but there are several reviews for author Spies book here on the Russell book site. I suppose it's that they share the same title.Max Ernst: Life and Work 1st Edition by Werner Spies (Author).https://www.amazon.com/Max-Ernst-Life-Werner-Spies/dp/0500976589"VS"https://www.amazon.com/ERNST-LIFE-WORK-John-Russell/dp/0810901080 I have just received this book (thus not yet read) this John Russell/Abrams book, and it's a beauty of a classic art book. 9" x12" 360 pages filled with numberous tipped color plates (the old-fashioned way in West Germany) and John Russell is one of the most esteemed art critic/historians of the 20th century. Many reproductions of rarer graphics that dance along the text, and the paper stock is thick. A conpendium of work through the decades is offered in a glossy b/w catalog in the back as well. So you know if you want to know more about Ernst, maybe having read the breezy (totally fun) Peggy Guggenheim Confessions of an Art Addict: A Memoir... or current interest in Dororthea Tanning (I saw her show in Madrid). https://www.museoreinasofia.es/en/exhibitions/dorothea-tanning This book is a fine investment in your appreciation of a great modern artist. Perhaps the greatest surrealist. Certainly a terrific creator. And a very "artistic" guy at the art of living well with beautiful art and women.
